Our dental practice was the first in Gig Harbor. It was started by Dr. Ryan (who was also the first mayor of the city) in the 1920's. He was succeeded by Dr. Richards in the 1960's. Dr. Coyner took over the practice in 1991. In 2024, Dr Simpson joined the practice.
Dr. Richard Coyner
Dr. Coyner grew up locally in a large family from the Lakewood/Steilacoom area. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and a 1990 grad of University of Washington School of Dentistry. He is a past-president of the Pierce Co. Dental Society and founder and president of the Pierce Co. Dental Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing dental services to disadvantaged children and adults. Dr. Coyner volunteers much of his time in homeless and community clinics and feels very strongly about giving back in the community.
Dr. Coyner is a member of the Washington State Dental Association and the American Dental Association. His favorite free time activities include any time spent with family, music, history, fishing and martial arts (two black belts).
Dr. Hunter Simpson
Dr. Hunter Simpson was born and raised in Pullman, Washington. He completed his undergrad studies at Pacific Lutheran University where he received a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Mathematics. At Pacific Lutheran University, Dr. Simpson met his future wife, Anella Simpson (Olbertz) who introduced him to the beautiful town of Gig Harbor.
Following college, Dr. Simpson earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors (OKU). He then completed a General Practice Residency at Denver Health and Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. After residency, Dr. Simpson and his wife moved to Gig Harbor. Dr. Coyner and Dr. Simpson are most proud of their staff, some of whom have been with the office for almost 20 years. Their caring attitude truly makes our office a patient-centered practice. Our staff puts the patient's needs first so that treatments are efficient, timely, and effective. They are highly skilled and trained, and strive to provide dynamic and enjoyable service to each of our patients.
We are pleased to treat our patients conservatively and especially enjoy both our young and senior patients!
